first of all its karat. Secondly, 1 karat is sufficient and standard, but when it comes to price, you could a 3 kt diamond for what some 1 kt diamonds cost. It all depends on the quality of the stone and its cut.

1K or a .5K diamond would be great for a diamond engagement ring. Please feel free to read the source where you can learn more about the diamond for your ring. The carrot should not count too much … you need to look for the right cut.
There are great discounts (85% off) on diamond engagement rings (in source) too if you like.
I hope this helps.
Good luck and may you have a great future with your wife.

Hi Bill. First of all, the term is “Carat”, not “Carrot”, “Karat” or “Karrot”. Carat refers to the weight/size of a diamond, and Karat refers to the purity of precious metals.
OK, assuming you are talking about a single round brilliant cut diamond, then the typical standard int he UK is anywhere from 0.25ct to 0.75ct. If you’ve got more budget, then look for around 1.00ct which is the magic mark, although expect to pay in excess of £3,000 for your white gold engagement ring. The average size ring is from .75 points to 1 carat. Make sure you are getting a quality cut rather than worry about the carat weight. Beauty, sparkle and scintillation takes place in a premium cut diamond. Using Cut as your most parameter you will get a diamond that looks larger and whiter than any other poorly cut diamond which weighs the same amount. The top cuts are Hearts on Fire, Whiteflash ACA and Eightstar.

Good Luck!
