Two engagement rings?
My guy friend wants to propose to his girlfriend. He is currently in an unpaid internship, but he has a good job lined up for when he gets his degree. He would like to know if it would be inappropriate to get a solitare engagement ring to propose now, then upgrade later on before the wedding or not. They would not get married until a year after he finishes his internship, so he is sure he can upgrade later, but he is really interested in popping the question around the holidays, and doesn’t have the big $ right this moment.
Would it be bad for him to do that, give her one simple one now and a more elegant one later?

He should talk to his parents or someone close and see if he can borrow the money and pay then back asap
I don’t see anything wrong with it. Why not get her a cubic zirconia or something and nobody could tell (unless they really take a close look and know a good bit about diamonds) and then upgrade later on. I’ve heard of a lot of people doing this actually. Even several times through marraige. My grandma started off with nothing but a wedding band and then my papa got her a 1/2 carat diamond and then later on he got her a 1 carat diamond ring. I now have the 1/2 carat, well actually my boyfriend has it and it will be my engagement ring when he decides to pop the question.
That should be ok. If she truly loves him, He will still melt her heart and even make her cry when he pops the question. Is always nice to have a nice ring to show off but when you know that you got that ring from the person you love, that’s all it matters.
