How much do engagement rings cost?
I'm thinking about popping the question to my girlfriend in the near future. How much for a nice engagement ring? How many carrots should it be, like 10 carrots?

A 10 karat ring would cost you hundreds of thousands and personally thats way too big -
Start with a nice 1 or 2 carat for around 5 or 6K

10 carrots is not much… i think maybe 14 is better.. anyway
about from 500$ to 1000$ or more of course… but you can find some very very beautiful for 500 but i don’t think you can have one for less…
depends on what ring you buy
What does she like? There’s so many different choices. But a typical engagement ring is 1 carat or less and it’s a Solitaire or by itself. I think though if you get a bridal set you save money and get more for it too.

Engagement rings come in a variety of prices.
When you refer to carrots — do you mean Gold Karats, as in the grade of the gold? OR do you mean Diamond Carats, as in the size/weight of the stone in the ring?
10 Karat Gold is common, but in my opinion, I think for an engagement ring you should get 14 or 18 karat which is better and has more real gold in it.
A 10 Carat diamond is going to be gigantic and cost you lots of money, so unless you are absolutely rolling in money, I wouldn’t ev
why don’t you take a walk around the mall today. i like the helzberg masterpiece or the zales octillion or signature diamond. stay away from kays and whitehall. Bailey banks and biddle are going out of business.
get ready for a little knowledge and sticker shock.
and it’s karat as in 14k gold, or carat as in a half carat diamond. The embarrassing level of knowledge you have today will set you up for shark salesmen.
Take three months and start hanging out at the website pricescope. slow down and learn.
there are amateur diamond collectors like myself who will help you select a diamond. i prefer the online vendor whiteflash for superior cut diamonds. for old cut diamonds i prefer the vendor good old gold.
The cost of engagement rings varies. You certainly don’t need to buy a super-expensive 10 Carat ring just because it’s expensive.
You can find a nice 0.30 – 0.40 carat Ideal Cut Hearts & Arrows diamonds (Best cut you can find) for about $ 600 – $ 700 and add a nice comfort fit solitaire engagement ring for additional $ 300. Try on one of the reputable online jewelers like http://www.jamesallen.com/ideal-cut-diam... where the diamonds and engagement rings are top quality or http://www.bluenile.com.
I suggest James Allen engagement rings because you can see actual photos of the ring before purchasing. Plus, they come with a 90 day full money back guarantee.
Engagement rings range in price depending on several things, including carat (weight of the diamond), shape of the diamond, color grade of the diamond, clarity grade of the diamond, cut grade (not available on all diamonds), certification (name of the gemelogical laboratory that performed the grading), and how fancy the metal band is (type of metal, uniqueness of the design, etc.).
The diamond is usually at least 66% of the total ring’s price. Buying the diamond and metal band individually (instead of buying a pre-set engagement ring where the diamond is already in the band) can save you up to 30% off the total price, even after the small fee you might pay to have a local jeweler combine the two pieces (if you don’t buy them both from one jeweler who sets them together for you).
I agree with the person who suggested reading articles and playing with the diamond search engine on Price Scope. Another good place is http://www.diamondpriceguru.com/. It’s also a diamond search engine (you describe the diamond–it finds the prices and other details for that type of diamond at 10 or so different retailers, like Blue Nile, Amazon.com, Mondera, etc.). They don’t ask for personal information–you just play around on the sites until you find what you want, then click on the retailer’s link.
I hope this helps.
research the 4 C’s. you have a lot to learn. the carat size depends on her taste in jewelry. some women prefer a big solitaire stone while others prefer smaller multi stone settings.
